If you’re entranced by the musical spectacles of Bollywood, visit Mumbai, the headquarters of India’s entertainment industry. Once called Bombay, Mumbai means many things to many people. It’s a bustling metropolis and financial center, as well as the former home of Mahatma Gandhi.
For a really fun tour of Mumbai, hire a rickshaw and head to the Gateway of India on the Mumbai Harbour. Built by the British Raj in 1924, it’s a grand structure that welcomes travelers. Take a boat to the Elephant Islands to see the Elephant Caves — temples created for worshipping the Hindu god Shiva. Or maybe you’d like to get lunch from one of the food vendors and kick back on Chowpatty Beach.
