Valparaiso
Historic Charms Abound in Valparaiso
With a rich past and a prosperous present, Valparaiso is surprisingly delightful port in central Chile. In fact it's the nation's second largest metropolis and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so there's so much to do and see in the hilly Pacific city. Cobblestone streets among colorful traditional buildings come alive with musicians and other artists. The cultural hub was also home to Latin America's first stock exchange, the original public library in Chile, and the world's longest-running newspaper in Spanish.
Other Valparaiso highlights include the Museo Maritimo Nacional, the Ascensor Concepcion, Plaza Sotomayor, and Playa Canelo. Of course, it also makes a fantastic seaport for cruise vacationers like you, so consider staying a pre- and post-night here in a hotel to ensure you see all the local sights.
